IMPORTANT SATURDAY UPDATE

The plan for tomorrow:

  • All cast members should arrive with hair and makeup ready (directions can be found here).
  • As soon as you arrive, go to the make-up room to have your make-up approved and/or touched up.
  • Once you are approved, come sit in the auditorium.
  • Featured villagers need to be approved FIRST, as we need to work on the Wedding Sequence with you while the rest of the cast is getting their make-up approved.
  • DO NOT GET INTO COSTUME RIGHT AWAY.
Once everyone's make-up is approved, we will clean up and run Act II to make sure we iron out transitions and feel comfortable with the most recent staging.

Shoes!

We have had several questions about shoes over the past few days... to answer your questions:

Thursday, February 9, 2012

Need ballet shoes?

The dance store, "Definitely Dance" in Exton (in the Kohl's/Acme shopping center, rt. 30/rt. 100), has graciously offered GVMS students a discount on ballet slippers!

Just let them know you are (or have) a student at GVMS who is a part of the musical production of "Once on this Island" and they will give you a 15% discount, making the slippers $17. They are open Monday-Friday 10am-7pm, Saturday 10am-5pm, and Sunday 12pm-4pm. Their number is 610 . 524 . 1891.

Keep on truckin'!

Good work today, everyone. We cleaned up a lot of our dance numbers and are ready to tighten up the first half of the show on Saturday. Be prepared to really work "Mama Will Provide" and to run through everything else we've done so far.

COSTUMES ARE DUE SATURDAY.
This is so we can make sure we have everything cleared for Tuesday, February 14th. Any costume questions should be directed to Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Carbonar, or Mrs. Colahan.

THE PIZZA PARTY IS SATURDAY!
Check this post for what you need to bring. Everyone is asked to bring something to contribute to this fun lunch!

ATTENTION ALL ALTOS:
You are doing an awesome job in vocal rehearsals. Keep it up! Keep practicing your harmonies at home, listen to the music and sing along, and practice your dance moves with your vocals. Keep up the confidence! You may be slightly outnumbered by sopranos, but you have the spunk and vocal power to keep up with them!! Practice, practice, practice!!

SATURDAY IS THE LAST CALL FOR T-SHIRT ORDER FORMS.

And a special note from some GVMS Musical Theater alumna...

Thanks so much for your support.

... and last but CERTAINLY not least: STAY HEALTHY!! Everyone seems to be getting sick. Please, please, please keep yourselves hydrated, warm, and away from contagious people!! We can't afford to lose any of you during rehearsals... only three more weeks to go!!

Big Update, Part II

Some more downloads for you:

A reminder that all downloads can always be found here, at the ge.tt filesharing page.

A note about ads: ad sales are a huge part of our fundraising this year, and it would be greatly appreciated if everyone tried to chip in and/or spread the world to friends and family about utilizing the pages of our program! Thanks!

A note about peasant skirts: having trouble finding peasant skirts? Try this one at Walmart (would need to be embellished a bit due to its sheerness), this one at Forever 21, or this one at Target. You could also try googling "girls' peasant skirts" or "peasant skirt" to see what else comes up. Also, check out your local thrift stores! The Palm Tree in Paoli is always a good one... please leave comments for your cast mates on any other ideas on where to find peasant skirts!

Updates and costumes and photos, oh my!

Ahoy, mateys! Long time no blog. I hope you had a relaxing day off today and got to spend some time playing in the snow! If school is canceled again tomorrow, we will not have rehearsal at 2:30 and we will see you Saturday. If school is at its regular time or if there is a two-hour delay, we will still be having rehearsal.

Here are some pictures from last Saturday's awesome rehearsal (Thanks to Mrs. Lane for taking these great photos!):

We have gotten so much done, but it's up to you to remember it all! We know you can do it! Here is what we've gotten through so far:
    • Entrance during the overture, blocking/staging for "Peter"
    • The Darlings' opening scene and song, "The Darlings"
    • The rest of the Darlings' scene with Peter & Wendy, "What Happens When You're Grown Up?"
    • Pirates' entrance, scene, and "Rich Damp Cake"
    • Lost Boys' entrance, scene, and "Wendy's Song"
    • "Braves to War" (click to download): an intense dance! I hope you've been practicing at home!
    See you soon,
    Ms. Hrap & Ms. Neville

& now for a note from your costume designer:

On Saturday, Lost Boy ensemble students received their costuming sheets for designing their Lost Boys costumes for Peter Pan! I hope that you are having fun thinking about creating your Lost Boy costume!

VESTS 101: How to FIND or MAKE
A Really Awesome Lost Boy Vest!

You could find a vest that is already a vest... very easy! Look for vests of all designs and materials- short vests, long vests, sweater material, leather, suede... a lot of the vests we are using for the show are vests that I found in thrift stores.

You can also have some fun and be creative with things that you find in thrift stores or in your attic! Here are some ideas of things that I did to make vests:
    1. Yesterday, I was making up a costume and found a sweater vest that was various shades of brown. It didn't look right as a pullover sweater, so I snipped it up the center and made it into a vest!
    2. Then I cut two smaller strips from both sides that I may use as arm bands or a head band.
    3. Next I found a really neat pullover textured shirt and some deep colored over sized ribbed tank tops and I did the same thing. I cut them right up the center and voila there they were.... 2 more readymade vests...in just minutes!
Just use your imagination! At rehearsal this Saturday look for me because I will have some really neat ideas for some things that you might want to look for and do to create your Lost Boy look! I'll also have some samples of complete Lost Boys costumes to give you a better idea of what to look for to design your costume.

Have fun and be sure to ask me if you need my help!
    Mrs. Hrap, Costume Designer

Remember, your total costume needs to be at school and
APPROVED by February 12th! Don't wait until the last minute!
